Community Tidbits: Fall mixology class, 'Grinch' auditions and more

easonal fun has arrived in the valley, bringing a mixology workshop and auditions for a Christmas musical in the coming weeks. Here’s the 411 from communities around the region, including South Charleston, Malden and Charleston.

WONDER WALK: The South Charleston Public Library invites local children and their caregivers to a Wonder Walk at Little Creek Park on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The event begins with a story, followed by an educational walk around the Little Creek Loop. Participants should meet at the Little Creek Loop trail at 4 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring water, a snack and comfortable shoes. Little Creek Park is located off Spring Hill Avenue on the west side of South Charleston. More details are available on Facebook.

MIXOLOGY WORKSHOP: Fall temperatures may be cooler, but a fall mixology class at J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works in Malden promises warm, festive drinks. On Wednesday, Sept. 24, professional mixologist Brendan Wood will teach workshop attendees to craft several autumn cocktails. Charcuterie will also be available. Tickets are $60 per person, and space is limited. J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works is located at 4797 Midland Drive in Malden, just minutes from the West Virginia State Capitol. GRINCH AUDITIONS: The Children’s Theater of Charleston is seeking cast members for “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Auditions are Friday, Sept. 26, and Saturday, Sept. 27, at the CTOC Rehearsal Space, 3712 McCorkle Ave. South East in Charleston. Singers and actors of all experience levels are needed for key roles, including the Grinch (Bass/Baritone, age 16+), Old Max (Baritone, 16+), Young Max (Baritone or Tenor), Cindy Lou Who (Soprano), and other Whoville family members. Performances run Dec. 18–20, 2025, at the Clay Center. New to auditioning? A free Beyond the Stage workshop will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 5–6 p.m. at the rehearsal space.
