he schedule for the Dunbar Fall Festival is out, and a local neighborhood will host its fall yard sale this Saturday. Here’s the 411 from communities across the region, including Campbells Creek, Dunbar, and Charleston.
YARD SALE: Charleston’s Campbells Creek neighborhood will host its fall community yard sale on Saturday, Sept. 13, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Ken Ellis Memorial Park, located about three miles up Campbells Creek Drive. Shoppers can browse and buy gently used items, food, crafts, and other homemade goods. Vendor spots are available for $5 by calling Rhonda at 304-356-6343. Ken Ellis Memorial Park is located at 721 Point Lick Terrace in Charleston.
DUNBAR FALL FEST: The popular Dunbar Fall Fest returns to the 12th Street Plaza on Friday, Sept. 19, and Saturday, Sept. 20. Friday’s festivities begin at 5 p.m. with an opening ceremony featuring Mayor Scott Elliot and the Dunbar Council, followed by live performances from Jeanie Raines, Non-Friction, and Eagles tribute band 7 Bridges. A wrestling event will also take place at City Hall at 7 p.m. The festival continues Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with entertainment by the Dunbar Middle School bands, the Charleston Ballet, Archana Narasimhan with From the Ashes, the Appalachian Lightning Band, and The 77” Experience. A children’s corner opens at 1 p.m. with bouncy houses, a mobile gaming trailer, a pumpkin decorating contest, a petting zoo, pony rides, and more. MEET & GREET: Healthy Families Mountain State is partnering with the Kanawha Dreamers Family Support Center to host three meet-and-greet workshops on Charleston’s West Side this fall. The events are scheduled for Mondays (September 22, October 6, and October 27) at the Kanawha Dreamers Family Support Center, 1401 Fourth Ave. Each workshop will feature a children’s playgroup and a simple parenting activity, along with information about how Healthy Families Mountain State supports the community. The Sept. 22 session runs from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., while the Oct. 6 and Oct. 27 sessions run from noon to 2 p.m. More details are available on the Healthy Families Mountain State Facebook page.
