A

n area teenager is helping beautify a local museum as part of an Eagle Scout project, and a community resource fair is set for Wednesday. Here’s the 411 from communities around the region, including St. Albans, Charleston and Clendenin.

SCOUT PROJECT: A local Boy Scout is beautifying the grounds of the historic Morgan’s Kitchen in St. Albans. Evan Kennedy, an Eagle Scout with Troop 146 out of St. Albans, began installing a new fire pit at the museum in August. “It is a great addition to the property and a big part of our future goals for the restoration, preservation, and community use of Morgan’s Kitchen,” representatives with the St. Albans Historical Society (SAHS) wrote in an August 9 Facebook post. On Wednesday, Sept. 10, Kennedy will install a set of benches he constructed for the fire pit area, completing his Eagle Scout project. The installation will take place at 10:00 a.m., and the public is invited to attend. “We would love for the community to be there for the completion,” SAHS representatives wrote in a September 5 post. Morgan’s Kitchen is located at 2600 MacCorkle Avenue, across from Parkway Terrace. More information on the historical site can be found on the SAHS website.

RESOURCE FAIR: Charleston’s nonprofit East End Resource Center will hold a community resource fair on Wednesday, Sept. 10, and the public is invited. The expo, which takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Resource Center’s location at 502 Ruffner Avenue, will connect community members with local organizations providing health, wellness, and retirement services. Representatives with Walgreens, the Kanawha Diabetes Coalition, Just Us Retirement, Hospice Services, in-home healthcare organizations and other community partners will be on hand to answer questions. Attendees can access free resources, get personalized health information, and network with other community members. More information on the resource fair is available on Facebook or by emailing eerc502wv@gmail.com.

FALL FEST: It’s that time of year again – fall festival season. Several local communities and organizations are beginning to plan their festivities, including the Clendenin Lions Club. This year, the Lions will hold their annual Clendenin Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 27. Previous Fall Festivals have included vendors, live music, food, raffles and more along Clendenin’s Main Street. Organizers are currently seeking interested individuals, businesses and organizations to participate in the event’s parade.  Anyone interested in marching is asked to contact Robin Fairchild at 304-548-7700 or Sarah Bird at 304-932-2777. Additionally, the Lions Club is currently selling door prize tickets for the Fall Festival. Tickets are two for $1 and can be purchased from club members or at Ore’s Clendenin Pharmacy on Main Street. Winners do not need to present to claim their prize.
