Community Tidbits: PSD office move, VFD fundraiser and more

ne local utility has moved its office location, and a local volunteer fire department will hold its annual fundraiser. Here’s the 411 from communities around the region, including St. Albans, Davis Creek and Charleston.

PSD MOVED: The Greater St. Albans Public Service District (GSAPSD) has moved to a new office. The utility’s new location at 209 Fourth Ave. in St. Albans opened on Monday, Aug. 25. GSAPSD customers can make payments and conduct business at the new location, officials said. To reach the office from MacCorkle Avenue, customers should turn onto Second Avenue (by the CVS), proceed over the tracks, and then turn left onto Fourth Avenue. The GSAPSD office will be located in the first brick building on the right, with a green door. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. For more information, call 304-727-2221 or email customerservice@gsapsd.com.

VFD FUNDRAISER: The Davis Creek Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6. The event will take place rain or shine at the W.Q. Waters Company, located at 1081 Kanawha State Forest Drive. A variety of eats will be offered for purchase, including hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches, pepperoni rolls, and homemade baked goods. Applications for those interested in volunteering with the fire department or the auxiliary will also be available. More information on the fundraiser is available on Facebook.

OPEN HOUSE: Charleston Area Medical Center’s Cancer Center is celebrating 10 years of care with a public Open House on Tuesday, Sept. 23. The event takes place from noon to 5 p.m. and will feature formal remarks and a recognition ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Cancer services representatives, physicians, nurses and other care providers will be on site to offer information about treatment and other services provided by the Cancer Center. Refreshments will also be available for attendees. The $50 million CAMC Cancer Center, located at 3415 MacCorkle Ave. South East in Charleston, opened in May 2015. The center features advanced cancer treatment options, on-site imaging, a breast center and more. In addition to procedural services, the center also provides a café, boutique, pharmacy, outdoor terrace, healing garden and other amenities for patients and their families.
