A

new cafe will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony today in one local municipality, and a local caregiver has been recognized for her work with area seniors and their families. Here's the 411 from communities around the region, including Charleston, South Charleston and Marmet.

RIBBON CUTTING: There’s a new restaurant in South Charleston. The Galley by Shuckers, a quick-service cafe, officially opened on Monday, March 23, at the West Virginia Regional Technology Park, near BridgeValley Community and Technical College. The Galley is an offshoot of the popular seafood and Italian restaurant Shuckers, a St. Albans staple. The cafe serves grab-and-go and made-to-order fresh breakfast, lunch and specialty drink options. It’s open weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 2001 Union Carbide Drive, Building 2000, serving breakfast from 7:30-10:30 a.m. and lunch from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. An official ribbon-cutting will be held at 10 a.m. today (Monday, March 30, 2026) to mark the restaurant’s launch. The public is invited to the ceremony.

CLUB FUNDRAISER: The Marmet Woman’s Club is hosting a fundraiser from 2-8 p.m. today (Monday, March 30, 2026) at the IHOP in Kanawha City. Diners who come to the restaurant at 6308 MacCorkle Ave. S.E. can have 20 percent of their order total donated to the nonprofit community organization. The Marmet Woman’s Club provides services and donations to local children, schools, veterans, seniors and nursing homes.

CAREGIVER AWARD: A Charleston caregiver has been honored for her dedication to supporting local seniors and their families. Tiffany Moon, a caregiver with Visiting Angels, a home healthcare agency, has been named one of ten national semi-finalists for the 7th Annual National Caregiver of the Year Award. According to a release, Moon has worked for Visiting Angels since 2019, where she has mentored more than 87 of her colleagues during that time. A company representative said Moon “embodies professionalism, compassion, and genuine human connection” in her work. Moon now has a chance to win $10,000 and the title of Caregiver of the Year.
