 free family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day celebration kicks off later this afternoon in Charleston, and the Dunbar Critter Dinner returns this weekend for its 52nd year. Here’s the 411 from communities around the region, including Charleston, Montgomery and Dunbar.

HOLIDAY CELEBRATION: Here’s a great all-ages way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Beginning at 4 p.m. today (Tuesday, March 17), the Roosevelt Neighborhood Center on Charleston’s East End will host a free St. Patrick’s Day celebration open to the community. Planned festivities include Bingo, homemade milkshakes, and lots of family-friendly fun. The festivities will take place at the community center, located at 502 Ruffner Avenue. FAMILY FUN NIGHT: Speaking of family-friendly, Bridge Valley Community and Technical College will host a Family Fun Night on Friday, March 20. The free event takes place at Bridge Valley’s Montgomery campus, located at 619 Second Avenue, and is open to all students and community members. Games, crafts and food will be available from 5 to 6:30 p.m. At 6:45 p.m., attendees are invited to a viewing of the animated film “Zootopia 2.” For more information on Friday’s event, email officeofstudentlife@bridgevalley.edu.

CRITTER DINNER: Grab your favorite pair of stretchy pants. Dunbar’s annual Critter Dinner returns for its 52nd year on Saturday, March 21. The popular event kicks off at noon at the Dunbar Recreation Center, located at 2601 Fairlawn Avenue. Admission is five non-perishable food items or a cash donation, with all proceeds going to the Dunbar Institute Food Pantry. This year’s menu includes dishes made with wild boar, elk, alligator, crawfish, venison, buffalo and more.
