Community Tidbits: Candy store reopens, hunt for 17K Easter eggs announced and more

 local community has announced the date of its annual Easter egg hunt, and a Kanawha Valley candy store recently held its grand re-opening. Here’s the 411 from communities around the region, including Charleston, Nitro, and Clendenin.

Egg Hunt: The city of Charleston has announced the date of its annual Easter egg hunt. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 24, at its usual location at Magic Island. The hunt includes 17,000 treat-filled eggs, according to officials. The event also includes children's activities, a magician, a visit from the Easter Bunny, inflatables, balloon animals, and rides on Hoppy’s Little Express Train. Sensory-friendly activities for all ages will run from 11 a.m. to noon. The egg hunt, which is for children age 10 and under, takes place from noon until 3 p.m. All activities are free and open to the public. Store Reopening: A popular Kanawha Valley sweet shop has officially opened at its new location in Nitro. Sugar Shenanigans held a ribbon-cutting and grand re-opening ceremony at its new location at 14 Bank St. in Nitro on Saturday. Owner Tracy White was joined by several local officials, including Nitro Mayor Dave Casebolt and state Delegate Andy Shamblin. The delegate presented White with a Legislative Citation. “A proud Nitro High graduate and dedicated public servant, Tracy has given so much to Nitro and Cross Lanes through her advocacy and leadership,” Shamblin wrote in a social media post. “She pours her heart into everything she does.” Sugar Shenanigans is open Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sundays from 1-6 p.m.

Murder Mystery: In the mood for a brew and mystery? The Clendenin Brewing Company has an event you won’t want to miss. On Friday, March 6, the taproom will host “Murder at the Bank,” a bank and brewery-themed whodunnit. Clendenin Brewing Company is situated in the former Farmers & Citizens State Bank building, located along Main Street. The structure, which dates from 1923, is owned by Evan and Becky Harding. The March 6 murder mystery will start at 6:30 p.m. at Clendenin Brewing Company’s taproom, located at 2 Main St. in Clendenin. More information is expected to be released on the brewery’s social media later this week.
