Community Tidbits: Library operating hour changes, county cleanups and more

The latest updates from communities around Kanawha County.

O

ne Kanawha County library is extending its operating hours, and leaders at the county’s Humane Association have proposed a simple way for you to give back to shelter workers. Here’s the 411 from communities around the region, including Cross Lanes, Charleston and Chelyan.

Operating Hours: Patrons of the Cross Lanes branch of Kanawha County Public Libraries now have more time to browse, learn, and play. Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 3, the facility will extend its hours on certain days. The library remains closed on Sundays and Mondays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the facility is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., while on Wednesdays and Fridays, it’s open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Weekend visitors can enjoy all the library has to offer from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. each Saturday.

Worker Appreciation: Representatives from the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association want to show appreciation for their kennel workers – but they need your help. “The animal care team works really hard, every single day,” leaders wrote in a recent Facebook post. “No matter the weather, holidays, etc. – they show up for the shelter animals.” To show appreciation, shelter management is creating 30 appreciation kits filled with items used daily by the workers, including lip balm, mini granola bars, dog or cat training treats, carabiners, bandaids and hair ties. Those willing to donate items to help fill the kits may shop the shelter’s Amazon wishlist or drop them off at the KCHA facility at 1248 Greenbrier Street in Charleston.

Spring Cleanups: During their most recent meeting, members of the Kanawha County Commission set the dates for the county’s Spring Cleanup events. The first will be held on Saturday, April 11, in Sissonville (3298 Sissonville Drive) and the second on Saturday, April 25, in the Cabin Creek area (15127 MacCorkle Ave. SE, Chelyan). Both events will be held from 8 a.m to 4 p.m. The cleanups are free and open to the public.
