L
ocal schools need more substitute teachers, and Charleston’s Holly Jolly Brawley needs vendors. Here’s the latest from communities across the region, including Charleston, Montgomery and beyond.
Substitute Teachers: Kanawha County Schools is seeking substitute teachers—no certification required immediately. State law mandates certified substitutes in classrooms, but districts can make exceptions. “The law does provide some flexibility to local school districts to use non-certified individuals in areas of critical need to supplement its substitute pool on a day-to-day basis as a last resort,” a KCS job posting states. Applicants for non-certified substitute positions must hold a bachelor’s degree, have a minimum 2.5 GPA and possess a valid short-term substitute permit. Applications are available online.
Trunk-or-Treat Winners: Montgomery General Hospital recently hosted its annual Trunk-or-Treat for upper Kanawha Valley residents. Local businesses, organizations and individuals provided candy and entertainment for attendees. Volunteers received awards for their creative trunk and booth designs. MGH Laundry and Housekeeping earned the top honor for a McDonald’s-themed display that featured a drive-thru, costumed workers, the Hamburglar, Ronald McDonald and even a costumed burger. Other standout designs included Hocus Pocus, State Farm and the League of Riders. Photos from the event are available on the town of Montgomery’s Facebook page.
Vendors Wanted: With the holiday season quickly approaching, organizers of Charleston’s annual Holly Jolly Brawley are preparing for festive fun and seeking vendors to join this year’s event, scheduled for Nov. 28-29. Vendors will help create a lively holiday atmosphere. “We’ve changed it up this year and will be doing one large 150-by-30-foot tent with 10-by-10 foot vendor spaces inside,” organizers shared on social media. “This will create a more intimate Christmas village feel and make it easier to keep warm.” Interested vendors should email Kevin Madison at downtown25301@gmail.com for an application.
