One dead in early morning crash on I-79 near Elkview

The crash happened around 5:20 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4.

n early morning crash on Interstate 79 has resulted in one fatality, according to officials.

Deputies with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office responded to the single-vehicle crash near the 7-mile marker on I-79 after at approximately 5:23 a.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, deputies located a Dodge pickup truck overturned in the median.

The driver, who was ejected rom the vehicle during the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crash reconstruction experts with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office were on scene throughout the morning. Preliminary findings indicate the pickup truck was traveling northbound when it left the roadway, entered the median, struck a drainage structure, and overturned.

The driver, an adult male from out of state, was the sole occupant of the vehicle. His identity is bing withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
