T
he Kanawha County Courthouse and the Public Safety Complex will be closed beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 22, and Friday, May 23, officials announced on Monday.
The early closing comes amid the USA Cycling Pro Road Championship event in Charleston.
Officials cited a need to “allow staff to exit the parking lots and head home” before Thursday and Friday's cycling competitions as the reason behind the early closure.
“The Kanawha County Judicial building, including the Courts and Circuit Clerk’s Office, are unaffected by these early closures,” officials said.
Kanawha Boulevard will be closed from Capitol Street to Clendenin Street all day on Thursday and Friday, and will extend to include Morris Street from 5 p.m. to midnight on both days. Local traffic can exit McFarland Street and Leon Sullivan Way on Kanawha Boulevard, traveling eastbound toward the Capitol.
Several downtown streets are affected by the Pro Road National Championships, which run through Monday, May 26.
The City of Charleston has created a web page with details of daily street closures during the event.
More information on the Thursday and Friday closures at the Kanawha County Courthouse is available on Facebook.
