anawha County saw the most new business registrations in April 2025, according to the West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office.
In a release, Secretary of State Kris Warner said a total of 127 new businesses registered within the county last month. That figure represents more than 9 percent of all new business registrations in the state in April.
Most new businesses were registered in the capital city, according to the state’s Business Statistics Database. Other metro communities, including South Charleston, St. Albans and Dunbar, also saw modest growth.
Other counties seeing the most registrations last month include Berkeley (126), Monongalia (110), Raleigh (75), and Jefferson (67).
Statewide, a total of 1,352 new businesses registered during April.
While Kanawha County saw the largest number of individual registrations, Wirt County led the state in the percentage of new business growth. In April, Wirt saw a 2.7 percent increase. That was followed by Lincoln (2.04 percent), Mineral (1.83 percent), Monroe (1.78 percent) and Doddridge (1.76 percent) counties, respectively.
