Kanawha County Sheriff's Office welcomes new K-9 deputy

Bingo, a Belgian Malinois–German Shepherd mix, is one of the department's newest recruits.

T

he Kanawha County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) has a new deputy. But unlike most of the other officers, this one has four legs.

Bingo, a Belgian Malinois–German Shepherd mix, is the newest K-9 on the county's force.

In a statement, officials said K-9 Bingo is already fast on the beat.

"He’s trained in full patrol duties, including article searches, narcotics detection, tracking, and apprehension," officials said in a statement announcing the new recruit.

Kanawha County Sheriff Deputy Brandon Shamblin, a nine-year veteran of the department, is K-9 Bingo's handler.

According to the department's website, KCSO launched its official K-9 Unit in 1996. The division started with one human officer and one cross-trained patrol/narcotics canine. It has since grown multiple handler/K-9 teams, each trained for specific tasks.
