anawha County Sheriff’s Office deputies made two separate arrests at the same business within a three-day period.

The arrests came after reports of criminal activity at Mazzella Quarries in South Charleston.

On Friday, January 9, deputies were dispatched to a breaking and entering in progress at Mazzella Quarries. At the time the call was received, an officer was already in the area investigating a prior larceny that had occurred at the same location.

Clendenin was arrested for breaking and entering.

On Sunday, January 11, another officer arrived at Mazzella Quarries to conduct extra patrol in reference to the previous incidents.

Upon arrival, the deputy met with the property owner, who advised that there was currently an individual on the property. An associate of the owner blocked the suspect vehicle from leaving and located the male on the opposite side of a nearby creek.

Deputies determined the suspect had removed two antique copper radiators from the property and was attempting to steal them when he was caught in the act.

The male was identified as Brian Elswick, 45, of Charleston, and was charged with attempted grand larceny.
