Step right up: WVSU hosting internationally-acclaimed step group

Step Afrika! to bring evening performance to the Institute university

n internationally renowned group devoted to the traditional art of stepping is coming to West Virginia State University (WVSU) this evening, and the public is invited to a performance.

Washington, D.C.-based Step Afrika! will hold a presentation today (Tuesday, Feb. 18) at the P. Ahmed Williams Auditorium of WVSU’s Ferrell Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

“Step Afrika! promotes stepping as an educational tool for young people, focusing on teamwork, academic achievement and cross-cultural understanding,” WVSU representatives said in a release. The Institute performance is just one stop on the dance company’s year-long, 50-city tour.

“The Company reaches tens of thousands of Americans each year,” WVSU officials said.
