Clendenin Summerfest to mark 9 years of flood recovery; events, schedule announced

Festival to be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

W

e’re just weeks away from summer, and the town of Clendenin is readying for the annual Summerfest celebration on Saturday, June 21.

Summerfest 2025 marks the nine-year anniversary of the devastating and deadly 2016 Elk River flood.

The town of Clendenin, in northern Kanawha County, runs along the Elk River.

Summerfest was formerly called the “Celebration of the Flood.” It was originally designed to recognize the anniversary of the 2016 flood that killed 23 residents.

While remembering the tragedy is a key element of the ongoing event, the festival now celebrates the recovery efforts that have taken place within the community since 2016.

This year’s Summerfest features music, games, craft vendors, food vendors and more. Businesses within the community will be open during the event, which runs from noon to 10 p.m.

Live entertainment begins at 1 p.m.

“Bring a chair and enjoy our lineup on the Harper Stage,” festival organizers said in a social media post.

Musical acts include John Richards, Adam Parker and the Cowboys, Rewind the Walkman, and The Mikele Buck Band. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m.

“There will also be inflatables and face painting for kids of all ages,” organizers said.

More information, including a full festival schedule, can be found on the Town of Clendenin Facebook page.
